Arriola council proposes to fund and manage 50%

The Basque Government proposed yesterday to the County share to 50% FUNDING n (700 million euros and management Donostialdea meter. This was one of the issues discussed between the Minister of Transport IƱaki Arriola and Deputy for Mobility Arantxa Tapia.

The meeting, held at the Palacio Foral was planned prior to the regional government announced the project to extend underground Eusko Tren line through the center of the capital, with three new stations.

The initiative occupied much of the meeting. Not in vain Arriola Tapia gave a draft cooperation protocol. The paper proposes a statutory institution to provide 50% of the funding required to undertake the improvement of the line in Donostialdea and in consideration, which is a partner in management. Both
Arriola as Tapia said after the meeting that this had been positive and that the contacts remain to define the project.

The Minister said that the proposed cost-sharing is similar to what was agreed at Bilbao for the construction of the metro. Arriola said the willingness of the council and expressed his desire to sign the cooperation protocol. Tapia

expressed its agreement to join forces, but said that before finalizing the funding will have to define the best solution for Eusko Tren extending through the center of San Sebastian and its links with other transport systems. On the surface

Arantxa Tapia presented at the meeting that the institution has a statutory Strategic Mobility Plan which implements a different proposal to the regional government. Broadly speaking, this would be based on extending the line of Eusko Tren in order to give service from Gros to Ibaeta, through the center, but on the surface. The convoys would be lighter than Eusko Tren.

The deputy said that both the Basque Government and the Provincial "we agree on the concept: improving mobility. Now. What will be the best solution? We have a different view of the Government, I do not know if better or worse. We have to compare the projects but obviously the competition is independent of the executive. " Arantxa Tapia

He added that "we must not forget that the Ministry has commissioned a study report to clarify what is the best alternative."

The deputy said the cost sharing between the two institutions can be a solution, but said to be analyzed also the entry of private capital.
